HIGHWAY 101 - A LOVE STORY

One of the many awesome things about living in Los Angeles is when you decide to get out of Dodge there is a glorious stretch of road called the 101, and she's just waiting for you to take her for a spin. She will set you down in Santa Barbara with all the pretty people and laid back lives. Santa Barbara will feed you, let you stretch your legs and hand you a cup of coffee.

Then back into the arms of the 101 where her view of the sunset is rivaled by none. She will twist and turn as Nick Drake's Northern Sky plays and when darkness falls you'll be in San Luis Obispo.
Head to the Downtown Brewery where Blonde Ale flows like honey for the price of chicklets. The entertainment provided by the local college kids is priceless complete with more skin than one sees at a Mexican brothel.
The next morning you can take the train back from San Luis Obispo as the Pacific lies down in front of you. My fellow Angelenos I implore you, take to the road.

I have "taken to the road" every fucking day of my life. The 101 is a lot like the woman in The Shining. Sure she looks beautiful soaking in the tub, her milky skin covered in nothing but suds; but step a little closer and you will see the milky skin is rotting flesh and the suds are herpes sores. The 101 is a dried up used whore which appears to be alive, but is dead inside. The drive north can be nice sometimes though...

Um, David, I think you seriously do need to take to the road--the high road. No really, sounds like you need a road trip. Just not on the stretch of 101 from Thousand Oaks through downtown...
